Abstract
This study has been conducted on the marine environment of Tobruk Bay to distinguish the degree and levels of water contamination of various sources such as sewage water, hydrocarbons wastes and biological pathogens of Fecal coliform bacteria represented by E. Coli, and a total bacterial count, where six study sites were selected in Gulf waters. These are the commercial port, the Corniche, the Electricity Company, the desalination plant, the Brega Company, and the Harika port of the Arabian Gulf Oil Company. The chemical study included the determination of some chemical elements, including some heavy elements, as the total salts included TDS, iron, sodium, zinc, cadmium, lead, and ammonia. The study resulted in a large variation in the levels of pollution with chemical elements from one site to another, and this is naturally attributable to the nature of the pollution sources and their quantities in the Gulf waters, and most of the concentrations of these elements exceeded the limits and indicative levels permitted by international bodies and organizations to protect the environment. It negatively affects the biological diversity of the Gulf waters of all kinds. While the study of biological pathogens resulted in the presence of pathogenic agents represented in the total bacterial count and E. Coli bacteria at high levels per 100 ml, which exceeds the guideline values stipulated by the bodies concerned with the protection of the marine environment
